Patrik Laine has traveled with the team to Columbus, signaling his imminent return to action ahead of the matchup against the Blue Jackets.
With Laine’s return, the Canadiens will need to adjust their lineup, which means a forward is likely to be sidelined. This decision becomes even more complicated now that Joshua Roy, recently called up from the Laval Rocket, appears to be sticking around for the long term, according to multiple reports.
According to journalist Renaud Lavoie of Le Journal de Montréal, Michael Pezzetta appears to be the most likely candidate to be placed on waivers.
This development isn’t surprising, as Pezzetta seems to have fallen out of the Canadiens’ long-term plans. He has been a consistent healthy scratch, and even in the face of injuries or unexpected situations, the team has opted to call up and play Lucas Condotta over giving Pezzetta an opportunity.
The writing seems to be on the wall: Pezzetta’s time with the organization may be coming to an end.
So don’t be surprised if the 26-year-old forward is placed on waivers in the coming days.
Will he be claimed? That’s the real question, but many experts seem to think he will be.
«The other player who could be placed on waivers is Michael Pezzetta, who hasn’t played in a month and clearly no longer seems to be part of the team’s plans.»
Renaud Lavoie
Will Michael Pezzetta indeed be placed on waivers? It’s very likely, but in any case, Kent Hughes will have to make a move upon Patrik Laine’s return (in the coming days).
And if it were your decision, what would you do?
