It wasn’t Kent Hughes who made the post-trade phone call following the deal between the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators. New details have emerged explaining the situation.
Hughes, currently overseas meeting with prospect Ivan Demidov, was unavailable. Instead, it was Jeff Gorton who reached out to welcome Alexandre Carrier to Montreal.
According to Charles-Alexis Brisebois from DansLesCoulisses, this task, typically handled by the general manager, was taken over by Gorton. The move was confirmed by Carrier himself during an interview with Maxim Lapierre on La Poche Bleue.
“It was Jeff Gorton and not Kent Hughes who called Alexandre Carrier to welcome him to Montreal. Normally, this is the GM’s job after a trade.” – DLC
The La Poche Bleue team deserves credit for securing Carrier’s reaction mere seconds after the trade announcement. Carrier, the Quebecois defenseman, will wear number 45 and has been cleared medically. He’s expected to join the lineup against the Detroit Red Wings as early as tomorrow night.
With his right-handed shot and strong defensive skills, Carrier is poised to add stability to Martin St. Louis’ blue line.
