Two players of the Sydney Roosters have been banned after testing positive to a prohibited substance. The NRL revealed the suspensions earlier today, which are sure to deal a huge blow to the team.
The players in question like all players within the NRL population were required to get into drug testing as the NRL deems it fit to uphold the integrity of the sport. This resulted in the discovery of the prohibited substances through the anti-doping tests, which warranted indefinite suspension as per the leagues standard operating procedure.
The sidelining of these key players will be greatly felt by the Roosters especially in their next games to be conducted. The management of the team is still analyzing the current situation and searching for ways to fill in the missing links that might appear unexpectedly.
To date, the Sydney Roosters have not come out with a statement addressing the suspensions. Further to this, the NRL has stressed on the importance of drug free game and, welfare of players and players fair play.
The suspended players will be subjected to other tests besides being mandated to take classes on substance use. The length of their suspensions will be arrived at, after assessing the penalty recommendations of the NRL’s disciplinary committee.
This event shows that the professional sports institutions continue to struggle to implement anti-doping rules. It is now waiting for the Sydney Roosters and the NRL to take adequate measures to resolve the problem as well as to avoid its reappearance again.
