Recent Report Suggests Boston Bruins Goaltender Could Request a Trade

The Boston Bruins have struggled in recent years to balance playing time between their goaltenders, and it appears history may be repeating itself.

Last summer, the Bruins were forced to trade former netminder Linus Ullmark after both he and Jeremy Swayman demanded around 55 starts each — an impossible feat within an 82-game regular season. Ullmark ended up being the odd man out.

Now, it seems Joonas Korpisalo is finding himself in a similar situation.

According to a new report by Dave Jenkins of nhltraderumours.com, Korpisalo is unhappy with his current role in Boston, and his agent has issued an ultimatum to Bruins GM Don Sweeney.

Here’s what Jenkins reported:

“During his end-of-season media availability, Korpisalo hinted at his frustrations: ‘I don’t think there’s any goalie in the league who’s really comfortable playing 20 to 25 games. So I’m going to push for more games, and we’ll see what happens.’”

This statement makes it clear the 31-year-old is seeking a larger role — whether it’s in Boston or elsewhere.

Jenkins further reported that Bruins insider James Murphy revealed a major development:

“Korpisalo’s agent, Markus Lehto, delivered a clear message to Don Sweeney: either give Korpisalo more starts next season or find him a new home.”

Adding more intrigue, Murphy also shared that multiple teams have already contacted Boston regarding Korpisalo’s availability.
While no front-runners have been named yet, the level of early interest suggests a market could quickly form for the Finnish netminder.

Although it’s uncertain if Korpisalo will remain with the Bruins next season, it’s clear he’s not willing to accept a minimal role.
