NHL Announces An Official Verdict Regarding Punishment For Darnell Nurse After Vicious Slash…

The NHL has officially ruled that Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse will not face any supplemental discipline for his slash on Dallas Stars forward Roope Hintz during Friday night’s 3-0 victory.

The incident unfolded when Hintz positioned himself in front of the Oilers’ net and gave Nurse a shove. In response, Nurse delivered a slash to Hintz’s left leg, earning a two-minute minor penalty. Though officials reviewed whether the play warranted a major penalty, they opted to keep it as a minor—sparking outrage among Stars fans online.

Hintz left the ice in visible pain, aided by an athletic trainer and unable to put weight on his leg. He did not return to the game, and no update was provided on his condition postgame. Prior to exiting, Hintz logged 12:08 of ice time and had tallied five goals and six assists through 14 playoff games.

Despite calls for a harsher punishment from Dallas and its fanbase, Sportsnet’s Mark Spector confirmed that the NHL Department of Player Safety would not be issuing a fine or suspension to Nurse.

The Oilers’ win tied the Western Conference Final series 1–1. The series now shifts to Edmonton for Game 3 on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT, where the Oilers will aim to capitalize on home-ice advantage.
