The Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) are heading to the playoffs, with head coach Mike Tomlin extending his streak of no losing seasons. However, the mood among Steelers fans is far from celebratory. Many are voicing frustration with what they see as recurring issues under Tomlin’s leadership, particularly after a rough start to Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cincinnati’s offense, led by Joe Burrow, opened the game with a dominant nine-play, 73-yard scoring drive, capped off by a Ja’Marr Chase touchdown. This was followed by a 48-yard field goal from kicker Cade York, giving the Bengals an early lead. The Steelers answered with a Najee Harris touchdown midway through the second quarter, but the damage had already sparked discontent in the fanbase.
Fan Frustrations Boil Over
On social media, many fans did not hold back. Some called for Tomlin’s firing, reflecting growing dissatisfaction with his tenure.
“I beg the Steelers to fire Mike Tomlin, man. This is not normal for teams to just give up at the end of the season every year,” wrote @dterrizzi6 on X (formerly Twitter). Pittsburgh has dropped its last three games, all to playoff-bound teams, and each by double-digit margins. The team appears to be stumbling into the postseason rather than building momentum.
Another fan, @mike_swaggin_u, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Yeah, fire Tomlin. I’m done with this. Here comes a 5-game losing streak to end the season and another one-and-done [in the playoffs]. We celebrate not being as bad as the Browns, but is this really much better?”
Some criticism was even more pointed. “I told all of you—the Steelers have collapsed. This is all on Mike Tomlin, who couldn’t coach a defense to save his life!”
A Divided Fanbase
While Tomlin’s consistency has been a hallmark of the Steelers’ franchise, his critics argue that stability has turned into stagnation. The team’s inability to compete effectively against top-tier opponents has led to increased scrutiny, with many fans demanding change.
As the playoffs loom, the spotlight on Tomlin has never been brighter. Whether the Steelers can rebound and silence their doubters remains to be seen.
