The Boston Bruins have officially completed a shocking two player roster transaction ahead of their game against the Winnipeg Jets.
As many expected, the Boston Bruins have officially activated Charlie McAvoy from Injury Reserved, and he will return to the Bruins lineup for the first time since January 11th.

For the Boston Bruins to activate Charlie McAvoy they had to clear some room on the roster, and reassigned a surprising player back down to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League

There was speculation earlier in the day that the Boston Bruins were going to reassign Michael Callahan in order to activate McAvoy, but it wasn’t.

If the Bruins activate McAvoy off IR for tonight, they will need to open up a roster spot. Callahan can be sent back to Providence without going through waivers, fwiw.

Instead Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney reassigned Max Jones back down to the Providence Bruins.

The Bruins announce that Charlie McAvoy has been activated from IR.

Max Jones also assigned to Providence.

Charlie McAvoy is expected to be placed back on the top power play unit in his return tonight, and fans are hopeful that after dealing with the injury that has been lingering, he can return to form going forward.

This season has been a struggle for Charlie McAvoy, like a lot of other Boston Bruins players. In 45 games this season McAvoy has been limited to just five goals, and 15 assists for 20 points.

Puck drop against the Winnipeg Jets is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at TD Garden as the Bruins are looking for revenge after losing 8-1 in their last meeting.
