Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin and winger Marcus Johansson appear set to return to the team’s lineup for Tuesday night’s game in Boston. Both players were on the ice at Monday’s practice and will likely play against the Bruins, according to head coach John Hynes.
“The fact that they did come on the trip and then had a full practice today and both feel good, as long as they get the clearance after practice then they should be good to go,” Hynes said.
Brodin has been out since blocking a shot against the Blues on Jan. 7. He’s missed the last 12 games, during which time the Wild have gone 5-7. That stat might be more driven by the absence of superstar Kirill Kaprizov, who will be out for at least four more weeks, but the Wild have certainly missed Brodin as well. He’s been a highly impactful defenseman for his entire career.
The 31-year-old Brodin, who is in his 13th year with Minnesota, has four goals and 16 points in 31 games this season, plus 67 blocked shots. He’s a +10 on the campaign.

Johansson, 34, has five goals and 16 points in 44 games. He’s a middle-six winger who plays on the second power play unit.
The Wild are getting healthier, though they’re still without Kaprizov and will also be without Ryan Hartman, who is facing a multi-game suspension. Hartman had a Zoom hearing with the NHL on Monday, stemming from an incident in Saturday’s loss to the Senators. The results of the league’s discipline will be announced soon.
These were Minnesota’s lines at practice on Monday:
If both Brodin and Johansson are back on Tuesday, the Wild will need to make a corresponding roster move.
At 31-18-4, the Wild are in third place in the Central Division. The 26-22-6 Bruins are one point back of a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Walker traded
The Wild announced on Monday that they’ve traded Sammy Walker to the Utah Hockey Club for future considerations.
Walker, 25, has scored two points in 13 career NHL games. The Edina native and former Gophers captain has just 2 goals and 11 points in 30 AHL games this season after scoring 41 goals and 93 points over the two previous seasons. He’ll get a fresh start with Utah’s AHL team.
