Netflix has announced an increase in subscription prices for its UK customers, effective immediately for new subscribers and gradually for existing members based on their billing cycles. The price adjustments are as follows:
- Basic Plan: Rising from £6.99 to £7.99 per month.
- Premium Plan: Increasing from £15.99 to £17.99 per month.
The Standard plan and the ad-supported tier will remain at their current prices of £10.99 and £4.99 per month, respectively.
This move comes as Netflix reports a significant addition of 8.8 million subscribers globally between July and September, attributing part of this growth to its crackdown on password sharing. The company has introduced an extra fee to enable more than one household to share the same account, which accounted for around 30% of the new sign-ups in countries where it was available.
Netflix justifies the price increase by citing the need to continue investing in programming and improving the platform.
The last price adjustment in the UK occurred in March 2022. With the current changes, Netflix aims to balance its investment in content with the evolving needs of its subscriber base.
