Novak Djokovic is on the mend from a hamstring injury, and according to a Serbian publication, he has made a decision regarding his participation in the 2025 Qatar Open.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion sustained a left hamstring tear during the 2025 Australian Open. Despite attempting to play through the injury, he was forced to retire after the first set of his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev due to severe pain.
Initial reports on Djokovic’s recovery varied. ESPN analyst Chris Fowler speculated that he could be sidelined for months, potentially aiming for a return at the 2025 French Open. However, Serbian outlet Sportal later suggested that Djokovic was hopeful of returning sooner, as the injury was not as severe as the similar hamstring issue he managed at the 2023 Australian Open.
Now, a fresh report from Sportal brings more positive news for Djokovic’s fans. The publication claims that the Serbian star will travel to Doha next week to acclimate to conditions ahead of the Qatar Open, which begins on February 17th and has been upgraded to a 500-level event this year.
Though Djokovic has not yet resumed full training, his decision to travel to Doha strongly indicates his intent to compete.
Coaching Uncertainty
Sportal also addressed speculation regarding Djokovic’s coaching setup. At the Australian Open, former rival Andy Murray was part of his team, leading to discussions about a potential long-term collaboration. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding their partnership moving forward.
The report suggests that Murray is unlikely to travel with Djokovic to Doha, even if their coaching arrangement continues. Many believed the Brit’s role would primarily focus on Grand Slams and Masters 1000 events rather than ATP 500 tournaments.
As Djokovic prepares for his potential return, all eyes will be on Doha to see if he can make a successful comeback ahead of the clay season.
