Novak Djokovic has reportedly been fined twice for carrying out renovations on his mansion in Marbella, Spain, without the necessary permits.
The Serbian tennis star, who previously resided in Monte-Carlo, moved to Marbella a few years ago, where he and his family built a luxurious home featuring nine bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, a cinema, and a spa. Despite the mansion’s grandeur, Djokovic undertook additional modifications in 2022, which have now landed him in trouble with local authorities.
According to Marbella24horas, the renovations, which included constructing three extra floors, as well as adding a porch, bathroom, and shower, were carried out without proper authorization. A January 2023 assessment by Marbella City Council officials determined that the changes violated local height restrictions.
As a result, on February 6, 2024, Djokovic was given two months to either submit the required documentation or demolish parts of the structure to comply with regulations. His failure to take action led to two coercive fines of €5,000 each, the latest of which was issued on February 13. If he continues to delay compliance, he could face up to 12 additional fines in the coming months.
Given his estimated career earnings of over $186 million in prize money alone, the fines are unlikely to impact Djokovic financially. However, resolving the issue remains necessary to avoid further penalties.
Meanwhile, Djokovic is preparing for the upcoming clay court season, beginning with next week’s 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters. Though some have expressed concerns about his form, his former coach Goran Ivanisevic recently praised Djokovic’s relentless drive for improvement, calling him a “genius.”
Djokovic’s most recent triumph on clay came at the Olympics, where he finally captured the elusive gold medal at Roland Garros, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a memorable final.
