Parramatta Eels forward Ryan Matterson has emerged as a potential target for Super League clubs ahead of the 2026 season.
According to Love Rugby League, several Super League sides have been made aware that Matterson is open to the idea of making the switch to the UK competition.
The 30-year-old is currently under contract with the Eels until the end of 2026, having signed a lucrative four-year extension back in 2022 to fend off interest from rival NRL teams. However, his future at the club appears uncertain.
Matterson—who is the nephew of former Castleford coach Terry Matterson—was previously told he could explore options elsewhere midway through the 2024 season. While he remained with the Eels at that time, fresh reports suggest he is once again being shopped around by his management.
He is yet to feature in a single match for Parramatta in 2025, having only been named as a reserve for their fixture against the Canberra Raiders. That has only fueled speculation that he may depart before his contract runs its full term.
Matterson began his NRL career with the Sydney Roosters in 2016, before moving to the Wests Tigers. He joined the Eels in 2020 and has since become a regular in their squad, even earning a call-up to represent New South Wales in the 2022 State of Origin series, where he made one appearance.
Known for his versatility in the forward pack, Matterson could be an appealing addition for Super League clubs looking to strengthen their roster ahead of 2026.
Several of the competition’s top clubs are actively scouting the Australian market for marquee signings. Canterbury’s Tom Amone is another high-profile name attracting serious interest, with Leigh, Warrington, and Hull KR among the clubs reportedly pursuing him.
Now, it looks like Ryan Matterson could be the next big name on Super League’s recruitment radar.
