It’s official — the Boston Bruins have etched their name into the NHL history books… but not for the right reasons.
A new report confirms that the 2024-25 NHL season marks the first time ever that the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, and Pittsburgh Penguins have all missed the playoffs in the same season.
The news, shared on social media by B/R Open Ice on Saturday night (April 12), stunned the hockey world — and especially Bruins fans, who are reaching a boiling point after a season filled with disappointment.
“For the first time in NHL HISTORY, the Rangers, Penguins, and Bruins have all failed to qualify for the playoffs.”

It’s an especially bitter pill for Boston supporters, as the Bruins have long been known as a dominant force in the Eastern Conference. This season, however, has been a steep fall from grace — and now, fans are demanding accountability.
Much of the frustration is being directed at GM Don Sweeney, with many calling for a leadership change. Critics say the roster mismanagement and lack of clear direction have pushed the team into unfamiliar territory — the basement.
Some fans are even calling for Sweeney’s immediate departure, unless he has a master plan for the offseason that can turn things around fast.
