Penrith, NSW – In an inspiring act of generosity, Penrith Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary has pledged his entire $1.8 million signing bonus and endorsement earnings to organizations dedicated to supporting the homeless across Australia.
The 26-year-old NRL champion made the announcement earlier today, stating that his success on the field means little if he can’t use it to create meaningful change off it. “Footy has given me everything, but not everyone gets that chance,” Cleary said in a heartfelt statement. “If I can help even a few people find stability, shelter, or support, then it’s all worth it.”
Cleary’s donation will be distributed among several frontline charities, including Mission Australia, Vinnies, and local Sydney shelters working to combat homelessness. These funds will support emergency housing, job training programs, mental health services, and meal distribution efforts.
Teammates, fans, and community leaders have praised Cleary’s action, calling it “one of the most selfless gestures in modern sport.” Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher commented, “Nathan has always led with integrity, both as a player and a person. This is just another example of the values he stands for.”
Cleary’s gesture comes at a time when homelessness in Australia is on the rise, with recent statistics showing more than 122,000 people are currently without secure housing.
