Penrith, NSW — The reigning NRL powerhouse, the Penrith Panthers, continues to dominate representative honours, with five of their key players named in the squad for the State of Origin Game I set to kick off the 2025 series.
The New South Wales Blues have officially confirmed that Nathan Cleary, Brian To’o, Dylan Edwards, Liam Martin, and Isaah Yeo will all wear the sky blue jersey in the highly anticipated Origin opener.
Cleary Returns as Blues General
After a dominant start to the 2025 NRL season, Nathan Cleary returns to lead the Blues at halfback. Despite injury setbacks last year, Cleary has shown he’s back to his best, orchestrating the Panthers’ attack with precision and leadership.
Edwards Earns Debut
Fullback Dylan Edwards has finally earned his Origin debut after seasons of consistent performances. Known for his elite fitness and defensive reliability, Edwards is expected to provide stability at the back and a relentless kick return game.
To’o and Martin Cement Spots
Winger Brian To’o continues to be a fan-favourite with his trademark strong carries and tireless work rate. Meanwhile, Liam Martin’s aggression and impact on the edge earn him another deserved Origin jersey.
Yeo Named Vice-Captain
Reliable lock Isaah Yeo brings leadership and experience, earning the role of vice-captain. His link play and tough defensive efforts make him one of the most valuable assets in the middle third of the field.
Panthers coach Ivan Cleary praised the selections, calling it “a proud moment for the club and a testament to the hard work these players put in week after week.”
The State of Origin Game I will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, at Accor Stadium in Sydney, with the Blues aiming to bounce back after last year’s disappointing series defeat.
