Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner dominated headlines this week following their showdown in the Rome Open final. The Spaniard came out on top, clinching another Masters 1000 title and stretching his head-to-head advantage over his Italian rival. Despite the loss, Sinner made a triumphant return to the ATP Race Top 2, an impressive feat considering he’s played just two tournaments in 2025.
The ATP Race counts only points earned during the current calendar year and determines the eight players who qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin.
Alcaraz and Sinner Lead the Pack
Carlos Alcaraz remains unstoppable on clay. After securing his seventh Masters 1000 crown by defeating Sinner 7-6(5), 6-1 in front of the Italian crowd, he solidified his position at the top of the ATP Race. His form makes him a strong favorite to defend his French Open title.
Jannik Sinner, competing in his first tournament after a three-month suspension, exceeded expectations. Despite lacking match practice, the three-time Grand Slam champion put together a solid campaign in Rome, capping it with a runner-up finish. Combined with his Australian Open victory earlier this year, it was enough to propel him back to No. 2 in the Race, ahead of Alexander Zverev and Jack Draper.
Draper Emerges as a Clay Threat
Jack Draper rounds out the top three. The Indian Wells champion continued his strong clay season with a quarterfinal run in Rome, falling to Alcaraz. The Brit, who was a finalist in Madrid, has shown remarkable consistency and is shaping up to be a major contender at Roland Garros.
Zverev Holds On, Ruud Surges
Alexander Zverev remains in fourth place. Despite a lack of consistency since his Australian Open final appearance, he captured an ATP 500 title in Munich and made a quarterfinal run in Rome. Though most of his points come from just two events, he’s showing signs of revival just in time for the French Open.
Casper Ruud moved into fifth place, capitalizing on his Madrid title and an impressive 9-match winning streak on clay. However, his Rome campaign ended abruptly in a lopsided loss to Sinner in the quarterfinals (0-6, 1-6). Still, his recent surge has reestablished him as a serious contender.
Musetti, de Minaur, and Cerundolo Round Out the Top 8

Lorenzo Musetti sits sixth, continuing a standout clay season with a 13-3 record on the surface. His only losses have come against Alcaraz (twice) and Draper. A semifinal showing in Rome has him brimming with confidence ahead of Roland Garros.
Alex de Minaur (7th) and Francisco Cerundolo (8th) maintain their spots thanks to steady performances. De Minaur dropped one place after exiting in the round of 16 in Rome, while Cerundolo gained ground by reaching the same stage and pushing Sinner in a competitive match. Notably, Cerundolo leapfrogged Novak Djokovic, who is now outside the top 8 in the Race.
With the French Open on the horizon, the Race to Turin is heating up—led by Alcaraz and Sinner, and packed with emerging threats hungry for a spot among the season’s elite.
