Former Spanish tennis star and two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja believes Carlos Alcaraz holds a slight advantage over Jannik Sinner heading into Roland Garros 2025. The prestigious Grand Slam begins on May 27, attracting top talent from around the globe in pursuit of the coveted clay-court crown.
Alcaraz, the defending champion, returns to Paris with momentum on his side. He claimed last year’s title in a gripping five-set final against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, triumphing 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. His primary competition this year is expected to come from world No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy.
The Spaniard recently defeated Sinner in the final of the Rome Open, winning convincingly in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1. The victory marked Alcaraz’s fourth straight win over Sinner and improved his head-to-head record to 7–4 in their 11 encounters.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Corretja acknowledged Alcaraz’s recent dominance but emphasized that Sinner’s form could peak as the tournament progresses.
“I think Carlos has a bit of an edge at the moment, before the tournament starts,” Corretja said. “But as the tournament goes on, I think Jannik will raise his level. If they meet in the final — and that’s still a few weeks away, with many strong contenders in the draw — I believe they’d enter that match with equal chances.”
Corretja added, “Considering it’s clay, Carlos has shown he has something extra right now. Still, I wouldn’t count Jannik out — he’ll be more than ready for the fight.”
