Panthers forward Liam Henry has been hit with a Grade 2 crusher tackle charge and faces a two-match suspension following Saturday night’s clash with the Newcastle Knights.
The incident occurred in the 23rd minute of the Round 12 NRL showdown at Carrington Park, where Henry executed a crusher tackle on Knights fullback Fletcher Sharpe. The NRL Match Review Committee reviewed the play and handed Henry a Grade 2 charge on Sunday.
If Henry opts to take the early guilty plea, he will serve a two-match suspension. However, should he decide to challenge the charge at the judiciary and lose, the ban will increase to three games.
This suspension would be a significant blow for the Panthers as they look to maintain momentum through the mid-season period. Henry’s absence could impact the team’s forward depth and rotation in the coming weeks.
The club has until Monday to respond to the charge.
