Italy’s tennis star Jannik Sinner had a composed but firm response when asked about being spotted with a girl in Copenhagen, just days before the French Open kicks off. The second Grand Slam of the season is set to begin Sunday in Paris, with top players from around the globe arriving to chase one of the sport’s most prestigious titles.
During his pre-tournament press conference, Sinner faced an unexpected first question from a journalist who referenced photos of him walking around Copenhagen with a woman. The journalist asked, “I saw some pictures of you walking around in Copenhagen with a girl this week. Just wondered what you were doing in Copenhagen and who the girl was?”
Sinner quickly set the record straight, explaining, “Uh, no, it was no girl. I had to do some business, just a couple of photo shoots there. That’s it. Nothing else.”
Turning attention to his preparations, Sinner enters Roland Garros as one of the favourites, alongside defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. Last year, Sinner made an impressive run to the semifinals, where he battled Alcaraz in a gripping five-set match that ended 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the Spaniard’s favor.
Reflecting on his readiness for the 2025 edition, Sinner acknowledged the need to raise his level. “Yeah, experience amazing, no? It’s something very, very special playing here in Italy, in Rome,” he shared. “They pick me up like a small child, no? The support was amazing. For sure, there are some things like we saw today, what we have to improve if we want to do good in Paris. I am closer than expected in a way of everything. But in the other way, it was good. It was a great week for me.”
As the French Open begins, all eyes will be on Sinner to see if he can turn his momentum into a maiden Grand Slam title.
