The Boston Bruins are closing in on naming their next head coach, with final interviews expected to wrap up next week. General manager Don Sweeney is preparing to make a critical decision ahead of the 2025–26 NHL season.
According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the team has entered the final phase of its coaching search. LeBrun shared via his verified X account that Boston has spoken to a wide range of candidates and plans to make a decision shortly after the last round of interviews.
Among those believed to have interviewed are Marco Sturm, Jay Woodcroft, Mitch Love, Luke Richardson, Joe Sacco, and Jay Leach. While it’s unclear who made the final cut, the Bruins appear to be casting a wide net, considering both seasoned NHL veterans and emerging coaching talents.
So far, no clear favorite has emerged. The search has emphasized not just experience, but also leadership style, communication, and cultural fit—key factors for a team looking to rebound from a disappointing end to the 2024–25 season.
Boston’s deliberate approach has sparked some impatience among fans, especially as other teams have already announced new hires. But LeBrun’s update offers a sign that clarity is coming soon.
With the NHL Draft and free agency on the horizon, the Bruins know the importance of locking in the right coach. Whoever takes over will be tasked with restoring team identity and driving consistency heading into a crucial season.
Stay tuned—an official announcement is expected soon.
