The NHL world was stunned when the Boston Bruins traded longtime star Brad Marchand at the deadline on March 7th. The move signaled the end of an era in Boston, coming just a few seasons after the retirement of Patrice Bergeron. For many fans, losing Marchand — a cornerstone of the franchise for over 16 years — was an emotional blow.
Since the trade, things have felt different in Boston. The energy around the team shifted, and fans were left wondering if there was any chance the Bruins could bring Marchand back — especially with free agency opening on July 1st.
But now, it seems that door has officially closed.
Marchand Not Returning to Boston, Says Insider
Bruins reporter Jimmy Murphy recently shared an update that’s hard to hear for die-hard Boston fans. According to a source close to Marchand, a reunion with the Bruins is no longer on the table.
“As I’ve stated since he was traded, a source close to Brad Marchand just told me:
‘I can’t see a way he returns to the #NHLBruins. That ship’s sailed.'”
Murphy also revealed his top three potential landing spots for the veteran forward:
- Stays with #TimeToHunt
- Signs with #LeafsForever
- Joins the #NJDevils
Negotiations Fell Just Short
Reports suggest that Marchand and Bruins GM Don Sweeney were only a few hundred thousand dollars apart in contract talks. Despite Marchand’s willingness to stay, Sweeney refused to budge.
“It was very disappointing things didn’t get done. I loved the organization and wanted to stay there,” Marchand reportedly said — possibly marking his final words as a Bruin.
