Sweden has announced a ten-swimmer roster for the upcoming 2025 World Aquatics Championships, set to take place in Singapore from July 26 to August 3.
Leading the women’s team are sisters Sophie and Louise Hansson, both returning Olympians from the 2024 Paris Games. Sophie Hansson reached the semifinals in the 100m breaststroke, finishing 13th with a time of 1:06.96. Louise Hansson impressed in the 100m butterfly, placing 8th in the final with a 57.34, and also reached the semifinals in the 100m backstroke, finishing 15th in 1:00.47.
As anticipated, Sarah Sjöström, the world record holder and Sweden’s most decorated swimmer, will not be competing. Sjöström announced in late 2024 that she would sit out the 2025 season. In February, she revealed she is expecting her first child in August. Despite her absence, Sjöström has expressed her intention to train for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, aiming for her sixth Olympic appearance.
On the men’s side, Victor Johansson is the standout name. A Tokyo and Paris Olympian, Johansson competed in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle events in Paris, finishing 18th, 16th, and 17th, respectively. He was also scheduled for the 10km open water swim but withdrew on medical advice.
Also returning is Erik Persson, who reached the semifinals of the 200m breaststroke in Paris. He posted 2:10.35 in the heats to qualify 7th and finished 13th overall with a 2:10.11 in the semifinals.
