Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky Get Punished Heavily for Their Poor Performances

An intriguing development has unfolded with the Montreal Canadiens. In the wake of Kirby Dach’s disappointing performance against the Vegas Golden Knights, head coach Martin St. Louis took decisive action. Dach’s poor play led to him being benched for several shifts, pushed to the end of the bench, and ultimately, the Canadiens made roster changes.

These changes sent a clear message from St. Louis to both Dach and fellow forward Juraj Slafkovsky. Dach was moved to a line with Jake Evans and Joel Armia, while Slafkovsky found himself demoted to the fourth line, alongside Lucas Condotta and Emil Heineman.

Surprisingly, Slafkovsky’s punishment appears to be more severe than Dach’s, though it’s understandable that St. Louis feels the need to take firm action to get his point across. Additionally, the changes have resulted in Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield being reunited on the same line.

Kirby Dach’s costly mistake, which directly led to a goal for the Vegas Golden Knights, has weighed heavily on the Canadiens, especially given the context of the game. With Montreal’s playoff hopes fading, a string of wins—along with the return of Patrik Laine—could provide a boost and reignite their chances of staying in the race.

As for Juraj Slafkovsky, the 20-year-old forward has registered 11 points in 17 games this season, but has struggled to find the back of the net, with only one goal to his name. Over his NHL career, Slafkovsky has accumulated 71 points in 138 games.
