Wild Forward’s Steep Contract Demand Complicates Trade Talks….

The Minnesota Wild head into the offseason with one of the league’s most intriguing trade chips—23-year-old forward Marco Rossi. While the team appears ready to part ways with the promising young center, a major hurdle is beginning to emerge.

According to Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff, Rossi’s contract expectations are already cooling interest from potential trade partners.

“Rossi’s camp is looking for a contract similar to that of Matthew Boldy in the seven-year, $49 million range,” Di Marco reported. “By all accounts, that price is too expensive for GM Bill Guerin’s taste, and he has at least begun to take calls on Rossi.”

If that price tag is too high for Guerin, it may be too high for others as well.

The Philadelphia Flyers, a team long linked to Rossi in trade speculation, have reportedly pulled back due to those demands. According to Di Marco, the two teams briefly discussed a deal last season, with Minnesota seeking a late-round draft pick in return. However, the Flyers weren’t interested then—and remain hesitant now.

“The 7×7 contract demand from the Rossi camp has also scared off the Flyers from even reaching out to the Wild to talk trade at this time,” Di Marco added.

Rossi, who has shown flashes of high-end skill and posted a 20-goal campaign, still has significant upside. With the NHL salary cap projected to rise steadily over the next few seasons, a $7 million annual salary for a potential top-six scorer could eventually be a bargain.

Still, for teams like the Flyers, that gamble is too costly—especially for a player still developing and standing just 5-foot-9. Rossi’s future remains promising, but there are no guarantees he’ll hit the ceiling his contract demand suggests.

The market for Rossi is far from closed, but any team stepping up will have to weigh the price of talent against the cost of potential.

POLL: Is Marco Rossi Worth a 7-Year, $49M Deal?

With trade rumors swirling and his contract demands reportedly scaring off suitors, we want to know what you think about Marco Rossi’s value.

If you’re an NHL GM, would you commit to:

🟩 Yes – 7×$7M is fair for a 23-year-old with 20-goal potential
🟨 Maybe – But I’d want to see more consistency first
🟥 No – That’s too risky for an unproven player
