With Brandon Carlo shipped off to Toronto, the Boston Bruins are urgently seeking a right-shot defenseman to stabilize their top four—and Calgary Flames blueliner Rasmus Andersson has emerged as their prime target.

Boston’s Blue Line in Flux

Carlo’s departure left more than just a roster spot open—it created a major gap in the Bruins’ defensive structure. He was a reliable shutdown presence and a leader on and off the ice. Replacing him won’t be easy, but Andersson might be the perfect fit.

Andersson on the Market? Flames’ History Suggests So

At 28 years old, Andersson is entering the final year of his contract, and Calgary has a clear track record when it comes to pending UFAs: move them before losing them for nothing. In the past year, the Flames have already traded away Chris Tanev, Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm, and Nikita Zadorov.

If Andersson follows suit, Boston should be ready to pounce.

Why Andersson Fits Boston Perfectly

Andersson checks every box the Bruins are looking for:

  • Top-four minutes
  • Right-shot capability
  • Power play contributor
  • Locker room leadership

He’s also affordable, carrying a $4.55 million cap hit, which is great value for a player with his skill set. Pairing him with Charlie McAvoy would instantly give the Bruins a formidable right side on defense.

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Andersson played 81 games this season, tallying 11 goals, 31 points, and 196 blocked shots. That’s impressive on its own—but consider his past production:

  • 2021–22: 50 points
  • 2022–23: 49 points

He brings offensive upside that could boost Boston’s scoring from the back end, something the team lacked at times this season.

A Smart Move for Now and the Future

The Bruins have cap flexibility and a clear need on defense. Acquiring Andersson would be more than a short-term fix—it’s a move that strengthens their core without sacrificing long-term assets.

If the Flames make him available, Boston shouldn’t hesitate.

This isn’t a depth pickup—it’s a top-four upgrade with real impact.
