Matildas star Mary Fowler has shared her hopes of starting a big family in the future — while Ivan Cleary has shut down growing rumours that his son, Nathan Cleary, is eyeing a move to rugby union.

“I really want to have a big family,” she said. “The only dream I have at the moment is to be a mum and have heaps of kids… A space where they can play outside a lot, garden together, feed animals, and run wild in the mud — that would be the dream.”

Coming from a big family herself — with four siblings: Caoimhin, Seamus, Ciara, and Louise — Fowler said she’d love to replicate that same environment.

“I would love to have two or three kids of my own and then adopt… ideally siblings, so they can stay together,” she added.
“I’d love space to grow my own crops and raise animals. A cow, goats, a pig, geese — even a Great Dane. I’m trying to convince Nath that it’s a good idea.”

Nathan Cleary Rugby Union Switch Rumours Dismissed

While fans speculate about whether Mary and Nathan can one day create that dream lifestyle together — especially with Fowler currently based in Manchester — rumours of a potential code switch for Nathan Cleary have been firmly shut down.

Recent speculation suggested the Penrith Panthers star was considering a move to rugby union — potentially in England or France — to be closer to Fowler. Wallabies legend Tim Horan even claimed Cleary was “very keen” on the switch, while Morgan Turinui hinted at international interest.

However, veteran NRL journalist Andrew Webster dismissed the rumours on SEN radio this week, citing direct conversations with Nathan’s manager George Mimis and father Ivan Cleary.

“There’s none whatsoever,” Webster said. “Ivan told me he’s been getting these phone calls for six months and it’s not true. George Mimis also confirmed he hasn’t spoken to anyone from any rugby club — anywhere in the world.”

Despite previous comments from Nathan expressing interest in potentially playing for the Wallabies, Webster reminded listeners that Cleary remains under contract with Penrith until the end of 2027.
