Brad Marchand has long been a familiar — and often polarizing — figure for Montreal Canadiens fans, thanks to his many intense battles with the Boston Bruins. But this summer brings something entirely new: Marchand is set to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NHL career.
That means he’ll be free to sign with any team — and yes, that includes the Canadiens.
Could Marchand Finish His Career in Montreal?
In a recent interview with NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Marchand left the door wide open:
“Could you see yourself playing in Canada?” – Friedman
“Everything is on the table! Yes, I’ll listen to all the offers and we’ll deal with that when the time comes and see what the best fit is for me! I love the media pressure!” – Brad Marchand
For a player who thrives under the spotlight and brings experience, grit, and leadership, this could be an intriguing opportunity for GM Kent Hughes and the Canadiens.
At 37 years old, Marchand still has gas in the tank — posting 51 points in 71 games this season between the Bruins and Florida Panthers. He added another 17 points in 19 playoff games, including a massive double-overtime winner in Game 2 that helped shift the momentum of the series.
If the Panthers go on to win the Stanley Cup, Marchand’s clutch performance could be seen as the turning point.
