Promising Canadiens Forward Ready to Leave Organization Over One Clear Reason…..

Following the Laval Rocket’s recent playoff elimination, exit interviews offered some revealing insights—none more striking than the comments from forward Alex Barré-Boulet.

While many players expressed a strong desire to return to Laval next season, Barré-Boulet stood out with a blunt declaration: he’s ready to leave the Canadiens organization if a better opportunity arises.

What Does “Better Opportunity” Mean for Barré-Boulet?

For the 28-year-old winger, it’s all about getting another real shot at establishing himself as a full-time NHL player. That dream, he made clear, is his top priority—even if it means leaving Laval behind.

“Alex Barré-Boulet still has the dream of playing in the NHL. He made it clear that this dream takes priority over the idea of returning to Laval at all costs next season. It would be very surprising to see him back, if you ask me.”
Anthony Marcotte

Barré-Boulet fits the mold of a classic “tweener”: a player who dominates in the AHL but hasn’t yet secured a lasting role in the NHL. This past season, he posted an impressive 63 points (22 goals) in 64 games with Laval, but went scoreless in two appearances for Montreal.

A Fork in the Road

At 5-foot-10 and 178 pounds, Barré-Boulet’s skillset continues to shine in the AHL, but he appears to be stuck just short of making the NHL leap. Given his age and production, it’s understandable that he wants to prioritize organizations that will give him a genuine NHL chance.

This situation will be one to watch over the summer.
