Parramatta Eels Extend Contracts of Promising Back-Rowers
The Parramatta Eels have doubled down on their commitment to homegrown talent, securing the futures of two rising stars in the back row—William Latu and Jezaiah Funa-luta.
Both players have inked upgraded deals that will keep them at the club until the end of 2027. While currently on development contracts through 2026, the pair are set to be promoted to the Top 30 NRL squad in 2027—a major step in their young careers and a reflection of the Eels’ successful junior development system.
Jezaiah Funa-luta has been a standout in 2025, playing a crucial role in the Eels’ SG Ball Cup run and helping the team reach the Grand Final. His performances earned him a well-deserved call-up to the Jersey Flegg side.
Meanwhile, William Latu has consistently impressed in the NSW Cup, continuing his rise through the club’s junior ranks. A powerful and hard-working forward, Latu has long been considered one to watch in the Eels’ system.
Mark O’Neill, GM of Football at the Eels, praised the duo’s progression:
“Both William and Jezaiah have shown exceptional growth in their game and commitment to the club. They represent the best of what our development system aims to achieve—young players who come through our club, earn their stripes, and are rewarded with opportunities to take the next step to NRL or NRLW level.”
