The Minnesota Wild may be on the verge of a significant front-office shakeup, and all eyes are on Judd Brackett, the team’s director of amateur scouting.
According to growing speculation — and commentary from Hockey Wilderness writer Kalisha Turnipseed — a rift may be forming between Brackett and General Manager Bill Guerin. If the two aren’t aligned, Brackett could soon be on his way out.
The tension comes amid concerns about Minnesota’s recent draft history. Key prospects like Marat Khusnutdinov (37th overall, 2020) and Daemon Hunt (65th overall, 2020) have either stalled or been moved before ever making a true impact.
- Khusnutdinov was recently shipped to Boston along with Jakub Lauko and a 6th-round pick for Justin Brazeau.
- Hunt was dealt to Columbus for David Jiřiček in November.
Fans are beginning to question the process: Are Brackett’s picks underperforming? Or is Guerin pulling the plug too soon?
“If Guerin doesn’t trust Brackett’s long-term vision, what’s the point of keeping him around?” Turnipseed asks.
Despite early promise, Minnesota remains stuck in playoff purgatory — eliminated in the first round again this season, extending a streak that dates back to 2015. If this trend continues, Guerin’s own job may not be safe for much longer.
