Former NFL star Antonio Brown is now wanted by Miami-Dade County authorities on a charge of attempted murder with a firearm, according to The Washington Post’s David Ovalle.
The incident stems from a May altercation at a celebrity boxing event in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. Reports indicate that Brown, 36, is accused of punching a man, seizing a security guard’s firearm, and then firing two shots, one of which may have grazed the victim’s neck.
Police responded to reports of gunfire and initially detained Brown, but later released him. Witnesses at the scene allegedly identified him as the shooter. Although Brown did not have a weapon when first approached by police, investigators later recovered two shell casings and an empty gun holster.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Brown engaging in a physical altercation, grabbing the weapon, and charging at the alleged victim. The man, who has known Brown since 2022, claimed Brown shot at him and that they struggled over the firearm. He was treated at a local hospital.
Brown, a Fort Lauderdale resident, claimed on social media that he was jumped by individuals attempting to steal his jewelry. He is expected to be placed under house arrest pending trial once located.
This is just the latest controversy in a dramatic post-career descent for the former All-Pro receiver, who last played in 2021. Brown’s resume includes:
- Four straight first-team All-Pro selections (2014–2017)
- Stints with the Steelers, Raiders, Patriots, and Buccaneers
- A Super Bowl ring with Tampa Bay
- Multiple legal and disciplinary issues over the past few years, including past accusations of sexual misconduct and felony charges related to battery.
Brown is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2027, but his latest legal troubles may impact his legacy and public perception.
📊 Poll: Should Antonio Brown still be considered for the Hall of Fame despite his legal issues?
- 🟩 Yes – His on-field achievements stand on their own.
- 🟥 No – His off-field behavior disqualifies him.
- 🟨 Unsure – Let the legal process play out first.
