The Penrith Panthers and Luke Garner are officially set to part ways, with reports confirming the club is prepared to release the versatile forward at the end of the 2025 NRL season—despite Garner still having a year left on his contract.
Garner, who has spent much of his time on the fringes of Penrith’s first-grade side, is reportedly no longer in the club’s future plans. According to Code Sports, the Panthers have granted him early permission to negotiate with rival clubs, and the 28-year-old is now on the verge of inking a new deal elsewhere for 2026.
The Parramatta Eels are said to be leading the chase for his signature, reportedly offering a three-year deal as they look to rebuild under incoming head coach Jason Ryles.
Debuting for the Wests Tigers in 2018, Garner played 75 NRL games before switching to Penrith at the end of 2022. Despite injuries limiting him to just 39 appearances in Panthers colours, he has been part of a club that secured back-to-back premierships, adding invaluable finals experience to his resume.
If the deal with the Eels is finalized, Garner is expected to slot directly into the 17—either starting or off the bench—bringing toughness, depth, and a premiership-winning mentality to a team that’s in desperate need of leadership and grit.
A three-year contract offer is a strong vote of confidence in Garner’s abilities and a potential key move as the Eels aim to bounce back after a turbulent campaign.
