Novak Djokovic emphatically ended a three-match losing skid with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics at the Geneva Open, booking his place in the quarterfinals and reigniting his clay-court season just in time for Roland Garros.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who skipped the Rome Open, entered Geneva seeking match rhythm before the French Open. Questions loomed over his form after surprising early exits in Monte Carlo and Madrid, but Djokovic delivered one of his cleanest performances of the year on Tuesday.

First Set Brilliance

Djokovic hit the ground running with laser-focused intensity, quickly asserting control in the opening set. He landed 81% of his first serves and won an outstanding 100% of his second-serve points—remarkable numbers on clay. A break in the fourth game put him firmly in the driver’s seat, and he consolidated to take a 4-1 lead. Fucsovics, ranked No. 134, struggled to cope with Djokovic’s depth and consistency, winning less than half of his service points. The Serbian closed the set with another break, taking it 6-2 in commanding fashion.

Second Set Control

In set two, Djokovic maintained his grip on the match. Though Fucsovics showed slight improvement on serve, the world No. 1 consistently outplayed him from the baseline, dictating rallies with his precise groundstrokes. At 3-2, Djokovic seized a crucial break to love and never looked back. He held serve with ease and wrapped up the match 6-2, 6-3, showcasing his best form of the clay season.

Momentum at the Right Time

Djokovic’s return to winning ways comes at a critical moment. With no prior clay wins this year and a recent coaching split from Goran Ivanišević, his Geneva performance marks a significant confidence boost. Now, he’s set for a quarterfinal clash with Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi—the same opponent who upset him in Madrid. With Djokovic’s resurgence, this rematch could play out very differently.
